Kayla – La Mestiza – Group discussion

In my group we were fascinated by the way that she describes herself naturally jumping from language to language depending on who she was speaking to because she felt she was all cultures at the same time.

In Chapter 7 she says,  ” Because I, a mestiza, continually walk out of one culture and into another, because i am in all cultures at the same time.”  We feel like we all do that in our own way. We hop languages from the way we speak to our professors, to the way we speak to our friends, girlfriends / boyfriends, mother / father, we have a special language and lingo with certain people and depending on who it is we change it. For example,  I wouldn’t tell Prof. Brim “Matt are you dead ass not gunna give me an A?  You wallin! ” but if i was speaking to my friend this would be much different. I love this, language is transitional and ever changing,  its fun or boring, its professional or slang,  its diverse.
