“Poor Queer Studies” assignment (Monica R. )

The short story, “Poor Queer Studies” was a real interesting short story.  It has opened my eyes to things I may have not been aware was going on. It actually made me stop and think about the society we live in and how the education system is. I personally felt like the one sentence that stood out to me the most was “As Mullen’s work and a wealth of educational data have shown, the tiered U.S. educational system does not merely reflect class disparities; it actively reproduces them by rewarding the most affluent students with admission to prestigious colleges and by channeling the poorest students and students of color into two-year and unranked four-year schools and, even more insidiously, into exploitative for-profit colleges (Cahalan & Perna, 2015).”  This sentence meant to me, that high class students have a way more opportunities then low income students because of their status. Colleges can benefit more off them then they would with low income students.  Low income students are only  exposed to certain  colleges because of their income or color.
