Campo (Shania, Katarina, Briyahnie, Kayla, Jahh ,)

While reading Campo individually, you’re confused and trying so hard to understand the context of the reading. You start to question yourself; “Wait, am I reading correctly”.. “no but seriously what am I reading” and “who are these BOYS”… However while rereading Camp as a group and analyzing it together, we all had several different things to say.. one may say the “boys” are gay, another may say the read is more on race and we even had assumptions that there looking too into the story over looking the main focus points. With all these assumptions after each person has read the text, left us thinking what is Campo really about. As a group we  had mixed assumptions not only about the reading but what was going on behind the scene in other words. It seemed that there was more then what was portrayed in the reading.

As a group, we revealed that so much is unsaid in Campo. What was interesting was how our Professor brought to our attention that there is an underline meaning between both of the boys. Possibly because it helps the reader wonder what exactly is the author trying to accomplish.

The reason as to why, there aren’t any specific names for each boy in the story is merely because the actual conflict between these two characters is that the boys are the same race, have/had the same job, but In so many ways they are still different. Both boys have a symbolic meaning to each other. The “worker boy” has insider knowledge like a mirror. The “thin boy” is the one who is trying to take care of the children like a day care keeper.   The author of Campo leaves readers with the epiphanic moment revealing to us that although the boys may look alike, they are completely different & the other characters that look nothing alike or do not act alike are actually the same. The characters may seem similar however the trust is not there.  “The thin boy doesn’t know what to do. Because he doesn’t know what the boy from yesterday wants”(Muñoz).
