Isn’t the purpose of higher education to better people and prepare them for a better future, but what happens when higher education becomes a business that only the wealthy can benefit from? As stated in the poor queer studies journal ” prestigious schools actively cater to wealthy students and their families, who can pay for college prep courses, tutors, tuition, and alumni donations.” Meaning these “prestigious school” won’t even look at the hard-working students who are just wanting an opportunity to prove themselves because of their socioeconomic status. So these students end up going to colleges that are underfunded just as stated in the journal. The College of Staten Island is desperately underfunded and who would really want to come to class if the projectors don’t even work?
